Mount Hope Baptist Church Internship Opportunities

Connecting College and University Students to Real World Life Experiences in the Church and Community

If you are a college student or seminarian looking for a place to volunteer your services to fulfill a commitment to community service or would like to do an internship at MHBC, we welcome all college and university majors.

At MHBC we offer the following internships.

Corporative Education or (co-op)

Through corporative education we offer a partnership with the university, students of all majors and the church. This process allows students to integrate real world work experience into their academic curriculum for college credit. Participating students work in areas related to their majors to create exciting and innovative programs, provide assessments, engage in reviews, serve as public speakers and perform community services.

Practicum

Under the tutelage of an employer and an academic advisor, a practica allows student to apply their academic experience to real-world projects and arms students with a competitive edge as they transition from the college campus to the real world.

Externship

Externships allow students a birds-eye view of a field of study on a short-term basis. It allows students to witness the demands of a field without making a long-term commitment. These are unpaid positions that generally involve shadowing and administrative tasks.

Field Experience

Field experience at MHBC generally entails collecting, recording and drawing conclusions based on a range of data including but not limited to community spirituality, church worship patterns, community demographics including community economic base, crime statistics, residential academic training, etc. Field experience serves as a laboratory for theoretical testing in a practical arena.

Service Learning

Service learning is a structured process that allows students to work in the church or community social service programs based on three essential steps.

A. Students outline their proposed service term and objectives.

B. Perform the service work.

C. Present an analysis of their experience in a five page, double-spaced typewritten report.

We are currently accepting internships for 2007/08. For internship opportunities at Mount Hope Baptist Church, indicate your area of interest, i.e., youth department, music ministries, Christian education, pastoral care, social services, technology ministries, etc., and email your cover letter and resume to Mount Hope Baptist Internships at hope@mounthopebaptist.org, Attn: Internship Director.
